Freezing Moo
Less expensive rolled ice cream

After filling our bellies with warm Korean food, we headed out to Freezing Moo at Greenwich Place for a cool treat. Freezing Moo exists as a regional franchise that offers rolled ice cream. Similar to the frozen yogurt trend a few years ago, Wichita picked up on the rolled ice cream trend within the last year.

Freezing Moo uses a liquid ice cream base with predefined toppings to make each serving to order, mixing the ingredients into ice cream, flattening it out onto an extremely cold surface, and using a metal spatula to form the ice cream into rolls before placing it into a serving container and topping it with ingredients of your choice. This manual labor and choice of quality ingredients will run you approximately $6 for a healthy (or rather unhealthy) serving.

Freezing Moo defines their options using friendly names, but their menu includes options for everyone, including those with dietary restrictions (vegans, gluten-sensitive, etc). I ordered a Pink Lady (vanilla base with graham cracker, strawberry, and condensed milk), one coworker ordered a Green Giant (green tea base with lychee and condensed milk), and another coworker ordered a Jungle Love (chocolate base with strawberry, banana, and chocolate sauce). We topped our ice cream with various toppings that included nuts, fruits, candies, and cookies. Given that we all tried different ice cream bases, we all agreed that ice cream is ice cream and it is delicious.

Green Giant made with green tea base, lychee, and condensed milk topped with Pocky, lychee, and banana
Jungle Love made with chocolate base, banana, strawberry topped with peanuts and Pocky

We were in a bit of a hurry because we needed to get back to work from our lunch break to support our food addictions, so the amount of time and labor for one serving does not make it a quick option. Freezing Moo did not appear well-staffed immediately after opening that day, but we received a friendly greeting, a thorough explanation of the menu, and our names written upside down (such that the letters faced us) on the ice cream before it was rolled up and served to us.

If you want rolled ice cream at a reasonable price without long lines, you can find it at Freezing Moo.
