We do not often see French food in Wichita, but we do have a number of restaurants that like to provide some French offerings. Welcome to Georges French Bistro, where everything is French and we want you to know it. I have been to Georges French Bistro a handful of times, a couple of times before their renovation and a couple of times after their renovation.
On our most recent visit, we went with a large group and ordered an assortment of items from their menu, covering a wide range of what Georges French Bistro offers.
We ordered their escargot, mussels and frites, french onion soup, salmon niçoise salad, goat cheese steak salad, quiche lorraine, and french dip sandwich.

Escargot and mussels tasted as you would expect. I would avoid if you do not generally like things that come in a shell, but since most people understand that things that come from a shell have a distinct taste, they were enjoyable.

French onion soup left a little to be desired, with a common sentiment, “This does not taste how I remember or think french onion soup should taste.” We blame this on lack of crouton due to the practicing of some dietary preferences. Georges French Bistro normally serves their french onion soup with a Gruyere crouton.

If you have been reading our reviews, you know that I love a good salad. Georges French Bistro offers several delicious salads, including both the salmon niçoise and goat cheese steak salad. George’s French Bistro cooks protein to your preferred temperature and everything came out as expected. Although, this time, my salmon niçoise salad seemed so incredibly overdressed that it almost dripped and the amount of raw red onions used would personally insult Chopped judge Scott Conant.
The goat cheese steak salad was more well-received, especially the fried goat cheese nugget.

Quiche lorraine and french dip sandwiches exist as French classics, but the quiche lorraine missed the mark while the french dip sandwich could not be eaten fast enough. The crust on the quiche lorraine was described as dense and almost chewy, while the french dip sandwich was described as succulent and juicy.
Along with my previous experiences with Georges French Bistro, I conclude that you have mostly hits and some misses. Food is generally a hit, but we have had dishes that left much to be desired. Service exists on a wide spectrum, sometimes very slow and almost non-existent to detail-oriented and overbearing. We have some diners that would come back and others who would not.
I think that Georges French Bistro puts itself out there and you either like it or you do not. If you want to give French food a shot, this would be a great option, just remember to come at the right time and pick the right dish for you.
