Yokohama Ramen Joint
Practically Wichita's only ramen place

When Yokohama Ramen Joint first opened, Wichitans flocked to it like they never ate ramen before (almost guaranteed that they had).

I love ramen. If I told you honestly, I probably eat ramen a few times a week for dinner. We usually make instant dried or fresh ramen and jazz it up a bit with fresh vegetables and some kind of protein. You can find both types and a variety of flavors at your local Asian supermarket.

I think that Yokohama Ramen Joint does offer an ante up version of ramen, always with fresh noodles and several broths and toppings to choose from. Their menu looks incredibly overwhelming, with sections for specials, appetizers, ramen combinations, additional toppings, non-ramen entrées, vegetarian/vegan options, desserts, and specialty drinks. We usually stick to either ramen combinations or non-ramen entrées to make things easier.

We recently visited Yokohama Ramen Joint for a quick lunch on a Monday, and we enjoyed it. Yokohama Ramen Joint occupies a small space in Delano. They use tables in typical Japanese style, which means that you may need to share your table with strangers, but we usually do not mind.

We ordered one of the specials Habanero Harlic Tonkotsu Ramen that includes pork broth, homemade habanero paste, chashu pork, half egg, garlic flakes, corn, green onion, nori, red ginger, and homemade pickle radish and vegetarian spicy fried rice. We love spicy food, and both dishes delivered on spice level and flavor. We should have taken home more leftovers given the large servings, but we finished the ramen (it does not keep well), and took home a third of the fried rice.

I make it a point to eat ramen when I travel. I have eaten ramen at a number of nationally top ranked restaurants including Sakuramen in Washington, D.C., Ramen Tatsu-ya in Austin, TX, Boke Bowl in Portland, OR, and I think that Yokohama Ramen Joint could easily compete with them.

I never leave Yokohama Ramen Joint hungry or wishing I went to another restaurant. As practically Wichita’s only ramen place, I think it serves Wichita well.
