I never thought that I would get into a heated argument with someone over best Thai food in Wichita. A coworker asked for a suggestion for Thai food, and I immediately said, “Chiang Mai”, and another coworker chimed in, “Thai House.” Our coworkers ultimately chose Thai House, so I decided that I needed to find out why.
A tiny restaurant of mostly kitchen and only 3 tables in a strip mall looks incredibly unassuming. On a week day, it did not look as busy as Google and Yelp claimed it would be, but I did call ahead for a carryout order. I generally prefer eating at a restaurant, but Thai House does most of their business through carryout. I called during lunch, and they had everything prepared and ready for pickup within 10-15 minutes. Thai House makes great effort in accommodating dietary preferences, and I was impressed that they proactively asked about dietary preferences on a carryout order.
We ordered yellow curry, but I substituted in tofu for animal protein (my standard for taste testing Thai food) and paad kee mao (chili noodles with chicken). We both felt like the portions were fairly small for the price, but the serving was appropriate for lunch. While I enjoyed and ate everything, I just felt like nothing particularly stood out about Thai House.
Yes, it’s good Thai food, but it’s hard to go wrong with Thai food in Wichita. Is there better Thai food in Wichita? Maybe. I will let you be the judge of that.
