Thai Village
Casual Thai restaurant serving Thai and Lao options

Only a day after Thai House, coworkers suggested Thai Village and being on the Thai trend train, I obliged. I was determined to find a Thai restaurant that usurp my current (and potentially all-time) favorite.

Nestled in a strip mall on the southeast side, you hardly notice it sandwiched in between a pool hall and a language learning center. When trying to locate Thai Village, I had a hard time remembering where it was, and I live within walking distance.

I had yet to try it, but it came with a heavy recommendation for the Lao cuisine options and Thai Village calls itself “House of Pad Thai”. Their menu covers your standard Thai options including pad thai and curries and specialty Lao options including khao piak (rice noodle soup with hand-pulled noodles) and khao poon (spicy rice noodle soup) , but it also offers a variety of dishes that can be served in either “Thai” or “Lao” styles.

We ordered sticky rice with beef jerky, cucumber salad (Lao style), garlic chicken, and pad thai, and ended lunch with mango sticky rice. Thai Village exists as one of the only restaurants in Wichita that serves khao piak and khao poon, but they did not have either that day, much to our disappointment.

Cucumber salad Lao-style
Garlic chicken with vegetables
Pad thai with wide, flat rice noodle and fried tofu

Thai Village delivered on both Thai and Lao cuisine, but nothing in particular stood out. I usually do not order pad thai, but since Thai Village calls itself “House of Pad Thai”, I wanted to make sure that I tried it. I would say that it meets my standards for pad thai, but nothing out of the ordinary. We made similar comments about the other dishes and service as well.

I am convinced that there are no bad Thai restaurants in Wichita, but I am convinced that I can find the best one.
