I will come right out and say that Chiang Mai Thai Restaurant serves my favorite Thai food in Wichita. A bit out of the way and in a neighborhood that I do not generally frequent, I consistently make the trip down to south Wichita for the amazing Thai flavors that come out of this restaurant.

On my most recent visit, we chose to go on a Friday lunch. I have never seen such a large restaurant so packed full of people before; a testament to the great dishes that come out of the kitchen. Being on my lunch break, I wanted to make sure that we could get in and out in a reasonable time, and despite the large crowds, the service did not degrade.

We ordered both the Massaman curry and yellow curry, and while both tasted great, we preferred the rich and spicy flavor from the yellow curry. In comparison to other yellow curries that I have had in Wichita, I think this one contains a deeper and more complex flavor that gave it much more oomph (ordering curries as “hot” does not necessarily mean more flavor).

Not only that, lunch (with dessert) ran for around $20 for two people; you would be hard pressed to find a better deal in Wichita. Each lunch meal starts with soup, salad, or egg roll. It ends with a doughnut, which I believe is just a fried canned biscuit and drizzled with icing, but sometimes simplicity is best.

Somehow not being incredibly full, we also ordered mango sticky rice because you cannot leave without ordering it. With the coconut milk and mango, it always ends the meal on a fresh and sweet note that makes you want to come back.

I have eaten a lot of Thai food recently and I can confidently say that Chiang Mai Thai Restaurant produces the best Thai food in Wichita. I think some others may argue with me, but my heart and taste buds stay with Chiang Mai Thai Restaurant.
