Headed over to Omar’s Kitchen for lunch today. Great flavor, great choices and a portion size that makes sense.
Both me & my colleague had the bowl. You start with a base of rice and then start adding items. There was a choice of chicken, chicken shawarma, lamb or fish sticks for the protein choices. Regular fried potatoes or fried potatoes in a tomato based sauce. Then we move into the choice of getting hummus, spicy hummus or baba ganoush. For the veggie choices there are a lot! Cucumbers, grape leaves (dolmas), corn, pickles, bell peppers, fatoush salad, israeli salad, chickpeas, kidney beans and red onions. There are 4 sauces to choose from as well – plain tahini, a garlic sauce, fire sauce and yogurt sauce.
I had the chicken shawarma and my colleague had the lamb. Both were delicious. As for the sauces, I went with the yogurt sauce and on the recommendation of the guy helping us also got a side of the garlic sauce. I was glad I did. The garlic sauce is where it’s at. I will definitely go that route next time we go there to eat.
The baba ganoush and the grape leaves were amazing. Both were flavorful and just the right amount in the bowl. While I admit the bowls are nothing amazing to look at, the flavor was there for sure.
I hope more people find this place and try it out. The people who own Omar’s Kitchen are the same that own Petra before a fire took it. Good food and good people … Its OK if you don’t know much about what is out there, they’ll explain it to you and walk you through what they have!
