Thai Tradition
Fancy sit down Thai with hit or miss service

on

It was not our first time to Thai Tradition, in fact, we have been to Thai Tradition several times in the past. I never understood the hype over Thai Tradition. As you know, if you have been following along, I have been on a mission to find the best Thai food in Wichita, and it was only time before I was back at Thai Tradition. If you do not want to read another review of another Thai restaurant, I’ll save you some time and let you know that this one was somewhere in the middle (excluding service, which was just surprisingly terrible).

Have you ever had that very human and normal reaction of annoyance when someone that arrives after you gets served before you? We had to watch for 30 minutes while waitstaff prepped a table for an incoming group, complete with beverages, appetizers, and complete meals. We did not get acknowledged or served water until after this group finally showed up. The restaurant was not busy, and we were offered a non-apology from a manager suggesting that the poor service was due to our specific server and that we should call ahead next time. It was not busy and we had a group of 5. We usually do not encounter this bad of service at Thai Tradition, but I would say that I have never received spectacular service at Thai Tradition. Given that they tout themselves as an intimate Thai restaurant with a good atmosphere, I would expect better service in general. I checked other reviews of Thai Tradition to see if others shared a similar experience, and it reads true that Thai Tradition hits or misses with service.

Aside from the service, Thai Tradition offers a fairly standard Thai menu with modifications for anyone with dietary preferences. Their menu easily modifies for those that do not prefer vegetables and those that are vegan and anyone in between. I ordered my standard yellow curry with tofu to baseline, this was served with soup or salad, rice, spring roll, and crab rangoon. Nothing about my meal particularly stood out, but my colleagues seemed to enjoy their meals of fried rice, chicken and eggplant, and chicken and mushrooms. I may have been so fixated on the service that I forgot to enjoy my meal.

I know many people love Thai Tradition and call it the best Thai in Wichita, and we come here often because a colleague loves eating here. Unfortunately, for me, Thai Tradition misses and I probably would not go unless someone else suggested it. I would say to each their own when it comes to Thai Tradition.
