After complaining incessantly about Wichita’s chicken trend, we finally review a chicken restaurant, namely Cowboy Chicken. An import from Texas, Cowboy Chicken offers rotisserie chicken with a Texas flare, including cloyingly sweet tea and country music. A fast casual type restaurant, you order at the counter and they deliver your food to your seat.
We received prompt service as we arrived fairly early, and we were educated on the Cowboy Chicken way. Cowboy Chicken offers chicken plates with sides, where you can choose which part of the chicken and which sides from a list of many. Cowboy Chicken uses white meat for its salads and drumsticks from the previous night for their crispy drumsticks. Each chicken marinates in seasoning for at least 24 hours before cooking.
The chicken looked small, but had good flavor from marinating in seasoning for 24 hours. The sides were well thought out, with large portions and varying textures and flavors to keep you interested. The salads came out gigantic with fresh, dark and leafy greens and an assortment of tasty additions.
For as much as we complained about chicken in Wichita, Cowboy Chicken exceeded our expectations, but we could not agree on whether or not we would be back. It reminded me of Boston Market with a Texas twist and maybe there’s a reason we do not have one in Wichita anymore.
