Espresso To Go Go
Good vibes and good coffee

When Espresso To Go Go opened downtown, we turned our nose up at expensive coffee. Here we go with another Reverie, we thought. How could the cost of expensive coffee be that much better than our free office coffee? I visited 4 out of 5 days this work week. It might be a new obsession or a really rough week, I have not decided.

I prefer Espresso To Go Go over Reverie. Espresso To Go Go boasts 2 downtown locations within walking distance of each other and Reverie touts 3 locations with 2 located downtown within walking distance of each other. I worried about an over saturation of fancy coffee downtown, but unlike the frozen yogurt and chicken trends, it seemed to stop exponentially growing at exactly the right time.

Espresso To Go Go offers a pretty standard coffee menu and serves Little Lion baked goods and Oven Lovin’ treats. I find that they selectively choose what they want to serve and do it exceptionally well. You will not find the type of extensive menu that you could find at Starbucks, but Espresso To Go Go executes above and beyond what Starbucks or any other national chain could ever hope. That being said, Espresso To Go Go does offer a “secret” menu that includes some more complex coffee beverages with fun names like Iron Throne (seven shots of espresso, seven hydrolyzed raw sugars, half & half) and Velvet Kerfuffle (raw sugar and vanilla extract infused into three shots of espresso, honey, half & half). Espresso To Go Go gets creative with their naming conventions, but it makes their beverages memorable without being too pretentious.

I normally order black coffee either hot or iced and a scone to start my morning, but I have drifted and ordered other things from their menu, like their Vietnamericano (espresso, sweetened condensed milk, water) and Proper Gentleman (earl gray tea, local honey, milk). I like the smooth flavor of their coffee, it comes off strong, but not incredibly bitter or unpleasant. I love the Little Lion scones; this month offers a seasonal flavor called Sir Walter Figgins (fig and walnuts with hint of vanilla and lemon) that just hits the spot.

Aside from the great flavors coming out of Espresso To Go Go, I find their customer service another reason to keep coming back. I first and foremost understand how terrible it can be to work very early in the morning, but the employees at Espresso To Go Go always greet customers in the cheeriest way and seem almost happy to serve up coffee before the sun comes up. The same cannot be said for some other coffee shops I have visited.

Espresso To Go Go hits the spot when you need a little pick me up, and while it can be a little pricey, it’s worth it and so are you.
