An import from Lawrence, everyone loved the idea of a foodie burger restaurant coming to Wichita. Dempsey’s Burger Pub recently opened its second location on Wichita’s east side, so it’s evident its popularity still grows strong.

I know people that just love Dempsey’s Burger Pub, and that pick Dempsey’s Burger Pub as their first choice for Wichita restaurants that they miss when they leave Wichita. I’m not sure I quite understand it. It’s probably because I do not eat meat, so disclaimer, a review of a burger place written by a vegetarian.

Fans of Dempsey’s Burger Pub generally review it positively, enjoying the variety of options and flavors, as well as quality of ingredients. I generally agree with this, even for vegetarians, Dempsey’s Burger Pub offers a variety of options, including two meat-alternative patties (portabello and quinoa).

However, I disagree on flavors. I was so excited to try the chopped salad because I liked every single ingredient listed, which rarely happens, but I found the chopped salad very overdressed in a dressing with a strange flavor. I found the quinoa burger good on texture and lacking in seasoning; I rarely salt restaurant food and I felt the need to dip the patty in sauce or salt it to get it to have some semblance of flavor. I think maybe a tweak in the quinoa patty recipe would be good.

For those that do not like beef or vegetables, Dempsey’s Burger Pub also offers chicken and fish. I know regulars that only order chicken tenders or fish and chips when dining at Dempsey’s Burger Pub.

So, I could go either way with Dempsey’s Burger Pub. I never found the food worth the money, nor the service worth the time. I understand why people could like it, but I just never liked it myself. Take that for what it’s worth.
