Dempsey’s Biscuit Company
Upscale Biscuits & Gravy

on

I was okay with eating at Dempsey’s Biscuit Company a couple of times this month since we hadn’t tried the place yet.  My hesitance came from paying  $10 for what is essentially biscuits and gravy with some hot chicken.  It felt super trendy/hipster – which of course has meant that all of Wichita has rushed to try the place out.  This building has been a taco/quick Mexican food place, Fork & Fennel, and now Dempsey’s.  The decor is pretty much Fork & Fennel with a a few changes.

I can’t rave about the food … but it was tasty.  The chicken on my plate was very difficult to cut with my knife the first time we were there.  The second time we were there, the breading just fell off of the chicken.  On the other hand, the “hot” chicken was tasty and the biscuits were made really well.

I’m all for Wichita’s food scene expanding, but sometimes I just want to eat without the hipster hype and prices.  When it’s lunch and for 3 people we were at $45 for entrees, drinks and a tip and I feel we’re entering a zone of slightly high prices.  Not some place where I can justify lunch every week … maybe once a month or once every few months.  Flip side is that the food is filling and tasty.
